PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM WILDFIRE! In an intense wildfire such as we have in the Hill Country, most homes ignite from wind-blown embers landing on inflammable materials, for example dry leaves in a roof gutter or dead shrubs and dry mulch close to a wooden deck. Here are five easy measures you can take to reduce your home's vulnerability:
REMEMBER:
Outdoor cooking must be done in a confined enclosure designed to protect against the spread of fire. Citizens must ensure that all coals and ashes are extinguished before disposal.

Stage 2 watering restrictions are required by the LCRA to be enacted by all firm water customers whenever the combined capacity of the Highland Lakes falls below 900,000 acre feet. An acre foot is approximately one-third of a million gallons. At present Lake Travis is falling rapidly due to commitments made by the LCRA to downstream users, high evaporation rates and virtually no inflow into the lake. Texas remains locked in an “exceptional drought” with little relief in sight. Hurst Creek MUD’s Stage 2 mandates twice per week lawn irrigation, with even numbered addresses irrigating Monday and Thursday and odd numbered addresses irrigating Tuesday and Friday. Washing of driveways, sidewalks, decks and buildings is prohibited. To minimize evaporation losses all lawn irrigation is prohibited between the hours of 10 am to 7 pm, but watering with a hand-held hose is allowable anytime. There are substantial penalties for repeat violators. For the complete text of the District’s Drought Contingency Plan please go to our website at www.hurstcreekmud.org

POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND REMOVAL OF TREES AND OTHER LANDSCAPING ON PROPERTY OWNED BY THE VILLAGE In many cases Village owned land backs up to residents’ back yards, and from time to time various residents have landscaped adjacent portions of the Village owned land, placed trampolines, swings and other private property in the public areas, and made other uses of the areas. Often these private uses of the public areas have resulted in disputes between neighbors. The Hills Board of Aldermen has approved the policy and procedure for the maintenance and removal of trees and other landscaping on property owned by the village. Click here to read the policy. If you are planning any activities in the public areas, including dumping, cutting of trees and bushes, and the placement of private property in said areas, read the policy and fill out the proper form to do so. The form must be submitted to the Village offices and after being reviewed you will be notified of the decision. Click here to print the form. Please call the Village offices at 261-6281 if you have questions or comments regarding the public areas. |

Reports of sightings of coyotes in The Hills should remind us that coyotes are indigenous to this part of the country. They continue to survive in areas that have become urbanized. Efforts to eradicate them in various parts of our area have been unsuccessful for the most part. Please keep your small pets under close supervision. Cats seem to be particularly delicious to the coyote palate. Do not leave pet food outside. If you feed a pet outdoors make sure you bring the food inside when the pet is finished eating and never leave food outside overnight. |

SECURITY AND EMERGENCY RESPONSEThe Hills has been most fortunate in having an extremely capable Deputy Constable who not only polices our roads but is charged with upholding the laws of the State of Texas. That includes vandalism by juveniles and criminal acts by those of all ages. He has solved many of the acts of vandalism that have occurred in our community and restitution to those affected has been made in most cases. If you, your home, property or vehicle is the object of vandalism or a criminal act call “911” which will alert both the constable and the sheriff’s office and also call The Hills Security at 261-0945 so that an incident report may be filed (this phone number is also listed in the Lakeway Residents Directory). The city again encourages parents to supervise their youngsters and their children’s friends. Several acts of vandalism in the city park have resulted in extra costs and time spent by volunteers in both cleaning up and contacting contractors. |

Operation of Golf Carts on The Hills RoadsState law allows unlicensed and unregistered golf carts to be driven on public streets to access the golf course during daylight hours. However, the Constable may issue citations for golf cart violations of traffic laws and unsafe operation – reckless conduct. |
